Dr Barrett has a 40+ year background at the highest levels of the international energy business, including senior executive and board experience with Shell and BG where he led the development of integrated energy businesses in multiple continents. Subsequently as Senior Advisor Global Energy with IHS Markit, now S&P Global, he leads major studies advising governments and corporate producers, utilities and renewables developers – many focused on developing countries in Africa and elsewhere.
He co-headed the European Energy Policy Dialog linking the EU Commission with key industrial stakeholders for the EU energy transition and liberalization agenda. He also holds or has held chairs and directorships of renewables, utilities, LNG and energy technology companies and is an operating partner for an energy transition fund.
He holds a doctorate from Oxford University, is qualified with the Institute of Chemical Engineers, is an alumnus of Wharton Business School, is a Senior Visiting Fellow with KAPSARC in Saudi Arabia and has been appointed an Adjunct Professor with the Haskayne Business School (University of Calgary).
