Emeritus Professor Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance at UCT, director 2011-2019. Educated UCT, Wits and Columbia. Worked at UCT, DTI, managed economic policy in the SA Presidency, deputy/Sherpa G20, co-chair of G20 Development Working Group. Fellow of Oxford Martin School, Oxford University, board member of the European Centre for Development Policy Management & on President Ramaphosa’s Economic Advisory Council.
Was visiting scholar at Harvard Business School, visiting professor at Maastricht University, IGC research director Zambia, Bradlow Fellow at SAIAA.
Published Season of Hope - Economic Reform under Mandela and Mbeki and The Oxford Companion to South African Economics.
He currently leads a multi-year research program on migration governance in Africa for the think tank Governance and Public Policy.
