Professor Liberty Macebo Mncube
Professor Liberty Macebo Mncube is an Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Economics and Finance at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is also a part-time Tribunal Member at the Competition Tribunal of South Africa.
Professor Mncube is also a former Chief Economist of the Competition Commission of South Africa, serving as Chief Economist from January 2014 to February 2019. He is an expert in the application of economics to competition law and has provided expert economic testimony in merger control, abuse of dominance, and collusion cases for both the Competition Commission and private parties, including several trailblazing cases before the Competition Tribunal.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and an MSc in Economics from the University of York. He teaches, supervises and writes on competition economics, industrial organisation, competition policy and economic regulation.
